Impact Steward Frank Peters: “Building bridges and connecting organisations.”

The Impact Stewards team is ready to make an impact on healthcare. Each month, we introduce you to an impact maker. This time, it’s Frank Peters. His 25+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and his capacity to build bridges make him a valuable addition to the team. What is his expertise? And why join Impact Stewards?

Frank, can you tell us a bit about your experience?

Sure! After obtaining my Master’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, I started my career in the pharmaceutical industry. First, I started at Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) in a commercial position. There, I learned the basics of communicating with healthcare professionals. From 2006 onwards, I got involved in the world of ‘omnichannel marketing’ and ‘customer engagement’. The pharmaceutical industry, like many other industries, has evolved from personal and face-to-face communication to a mix with more digital interaction. I have worked on this at MSD, but also for Biogen and life sciences agencies. The digital transformation of the pharmaceutical industry is such a fascinating challenge.

What makes this so fascinating?

It’s not just about adopting digital technologies. Designing and implementing new processes for creating and approving content, as well as ‘customer engagement’ plans are key. The most important but often underestimated part, however, is the transformation part. How do marketing and sales professionals need to change the way they work, and how do you make that happen? If you worked mainly with printed materials in the past, now you will need to get to grips with e-mails, websites, webinars, and social media. How do you do this?

“I love contributing to improving the health and the daily lives of patients and their relatives.”

Why did you decide to become an independent consultant?

I wanted to apply my knowledge and experience to multiple organisations. Currently, I’m working as a marketing director at Brain Research Center. This is an independent clinical research organisation that executes clinical trials for promising medications for brain diseases, in particular Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, as well as other forms of dementia. Did you know that recruiting and engaging participants is the number one challenge in clinical research? Now, I’m using my knowledge and experience to work on that. I love contributing to improving the health and daily lives of patients and their relatives.

Why join Impact Stewards?

All stewards want to make an impact on society through their work. Everyone has his or her own experience here at Impact Stewards. I’m focused on guiding transformations, using my experience in marketing, sales, technology, and processes and my ability to build bridges between disciplines. My projects range from designing a strategic roadmap to drafting customer engagement plans to generating tailored content for multiple channels.

Next to your professional life, what does your personal life look like?

Well, I’m married and have two boys, aged sixteen and eighteen. In my spare time, I love to bike, run, and ski. Spending time outdoors in nature is important to me and I make sure to prioritise that.

“Frank can build bridges between disciplines. He brings along lots of experience in technology, commerce, and processes. I’m glad to have him in our team.”
